.. is performing popular musical numbers with an umbrella.
Yes, that really is the man himself, and yes, that really is a red umbrella. Furthermore, something tells me that the star in the reasonably priced car is going to be quite spectacular when it airs this weekend – the test track was properly soaked and there was much skidding to be had.
BTW, Top Gear is one of the few productions still made internally by the BBC. It saddens me that Lord Grade suggests that the BBC outsources the likes of Strictly, Doctor Who and other programs to independent production companies in order to get more value out of the license fee (especially as the Government has refused to allow the BBC to increase it). It would essentially turn the BBC into a distributor rather than maker of original programs. Already a very large amount of its output come from commissions through independent production companies – many of whom happen to be BBC’s commercial arm, BBC America.
Perhaps it’s time to call it a day on the license fee and make the BBC a subscription service – and one that is no longer subject to the interference from the Government. But then again, what would replace it as our public broadcaster other than the many commercial free-to-air TV stations? And if the BBC did go subscription, wouldn’t that mean the Government (and the likes of the Daily Mail) would have won against their vendetta against this wonderful corporation?
