BT Infinity Home Hub 5 Dropouts

Moving back to BT has definitely been the worst decision I’ve made this year.  Since March, my internet connection has dropped almost on a daily basis.

This in itself is not much of a problem, but BT’s DHCP servers offer such incredibly short lease times for their public IPs, it makes trying to keep a firewall updated impossible.

Sure, DynDNS to the rescue in some cases, but I can’t use that on the IP-only filtered firewalls which I have to use for work.

Speaking of which, the Home Hub 5 kicked me off during a moment on-call sometime in April.  This was not good at all.  Thankfully I still have the Virgin Media broadband until August alongside EE tethering on my iPhone.  But I shouldn’t have to be relying on these because BT can’t establish a stable enough connection.

What also annoys me about BT is that they’ve provided me with a landline number that is constantly being spammed by survey/research companies and for people and companies asking for a “Mr. Darch”.

If I hadn’t took out a BT phone along with my original order I’d probably have not bothered putting a phone on the landline at all.   Mobile phones are, thankfully, more expensive to call and would possibly explain why they’re not being bombarded by spamming scumbucket companies.

I’ll be in touch with BT to see if we can swap out the Home Hub 5 to see if it’s a faulty unit.  When I reported the problem to them a couple of weeks ago they monitored the line and the longest it stayed up was for 7 days.  The connection now resets every 1-4 days randomly.

I’ve paid for my line rental a year up front, much of the other bills upfront as well, but BT is not providing me with a quality service that we used to receive prior to moving to Virgin Media.   It’s become,  if I may say so, incredibly shit.
