The Goodies, goody goody yum yum..
The Goodies pretty much sums up what Kick-Ass 2 is to me. A mix of chaotic nonsense with a similar visual style, especially when it comes to the effects. But less funny.
I don’t really know what to make of the effects. I’m not sure whether this is a budget or a visual style choice. The number of times a character states that “this is the real world” only to then end up with Goodies quality/style special effects confuses me.
Speaking of the technical aspects: the colour grading of Kick-Ass 2 occasionally makes everybody look like the colour of Teletubbies. With many films, the director tends to go mental and washes away the colour to the point that it looks like the film has gone through the washing machine too many times – like faded jeans. In the case of Kick-Ass 2, the whole thing looks as if somebody has just discovered colour and has turned the contrast and brightness right up. The whole thing looks as if it comes from the 80s. The colours are far too warm in places. Urgh.
Don’t get me started on the sound mix. Even trying to listen to this thing with headphones on, the dialogue sounds mumbly to the point where I’ve missed entirely lines. And you thought it was just the BBC that had these problems.
To sum up – Kick-Ass 2 is essentially The Goodies with more violence, but less charming, a much smaller budget, and made with the equivalent of ZX Spectrums.
Kick-Ass 3?
