Hard to believe that Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is 50th years old this year, but it is!
I was quite privileged to work on the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation of the book. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea, granted, but IMHO it matched the underlying dark humour of the book. I love both adaptations – each has their own individual charm.
As for the book – well, Dahl was a fantastic storyteller for children. I lapped up most of his books before “graduating” to Douglas Adams. I think they both shared a similar sense of humour.
50 years old? Blimey.
